What makes wall art moody rather than just dark?
Light doing less work. A dark print is one with a black background. A moody one keeps most of the subject in shadow and lets a single light source find an edge, so your eye finishes the shape. That is why these reward a second look and a flat black poster does not.
Does dark art make a room feel smaller?
Not on a light wall, where it reads as a hole cut into the plaster and gives the room depth. On a dark wall it needs breathing space around it and a lamp or a picture light, otherwise the piece and the paint merge into one grey mass.
